What are the biggest health risks while pregnant?
First and foremost, a pregnancy is not an illness, it is a normal progression of life and your body is equipped to handle the pregnancy. When you plan at falling pregnant, it is always a good idea to look at your diet, make sure that you eat healthy, exercise, abstain from smoking. A healthy mom generally does not need to have any concerns. Listen to the full Interview to learn more.
Symptoms that could cause concern
The First Trimester, any bleeding is a concern. Even if it is only a little bit of spotting, you should have it checked out by your doctor.
The Second Trimester you could experience the possibility of early labour. Go to the hospital immediately as contractions can still be stopped.
The Third Trimester you can experience high blood pressure. Even a healthy mother, with a healthy pregnancy can suddenly start having high blood pressure.
It is a good idea to know where your clinic is as your medical practitioner might not always be readily available. Visit your Pharmacy Clinic in your area frequently if you have any questions.
How much weight gain should I expect?
It is very much individual and it also depends on where you start off. If you have a normal BMI (body mass index); that is between 18.5 and 24.9; you should gain between 11 and 16 kg, not more than that.
