What are the consequences of a teenage pregnancy?
No School Diploma
Teenage mothers are more likely to drop out of school. Only about one-third of teen mothers obtain a high school diploma. Teenage girls often do not complete their schooling and education, but also struggle to cope with schooling, adolescence and single parenting.
Alcohol & Substance Abuse
Teenage pregnancies are associated with increased rates of alcohol abuse and substance abuse, lower educational level and reduced earning potential in teen fathers.
Eighty percent of teen mothers must rely on welfare because they lack the knowledge and skills to provide for the baby.
Repeat Pregnancies
The younger the teen when she gets pregnant, the more likely she will be to have another pregnancy in her teens. Repeat pregnancies increase when the teen is living with her sexual partner and has dropped out of school.
